Welcome

Welcome to the web site of the Katy Citizen Watchdog$!!  We’re glad you found us!!  We hope that you will find this site informative and “eye opening”.  We hope that you will consider joining us after you have had a chance to see what we are trying to accomplish.

Who are the Katy Citizen Watchdog$?  We are the parents/taxpayers of the Katy School District.  We are ordinary, hardworking Americans from various backgrounds and professions (including the education profession) who believe that school districts should be accountable and transparent to the people that “pay the bills”.  We simply want proper representation to go with our taxation.  If you will recall your history, this is not a new concept. COTTRELL PASSES THE TORCH!!

By Chris Cottrell, Katy Citizen Watchdog$

First of all I want to wish each of you a very Merry Christmas and a happy, safe and prosperous New Year.  With our new Socialist-Elect President and liberal super-majority on the Hill, I believe that we will all need a little luck in having a prosperous year in 2009.  But I digress and that is a whole other topic unto itself.  I am writing this letter to tell everyone that I am passing over my “front and center” role in the Katy Watchdog$ to my other fellow Watchdog leaders effective January 1, 2009.  Unlike our Board of Trustees, we here at the Katy Citizen Watchdog$ believe in term limits and my term is coming to an end.  Since our formation in August of 2005 I have been the official designated spokesman/speaker (or designated “whipping boy” as I like to call myself) for the group.  In addition, I have been the editor of the monthly newsletters and the Watchdog web site.  I have also worked very closely with A.D. during the numerous campaigns that we have been involved in over these last three (3) years.  Contrary to what some may think, these many roles have taken up a great deal of time and effort.

MERRY CHRISTMAS & HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

By Chris Cottrell, Katy Citizen Watchdog$

I know that it is hard to believe but the Christmas season is upon us once again.  For me, 2008 has been a blur of activity and I can’t believe that this year is almost over!  2008 saw the start of college for my twin daughters.  It’s hard to believe how much they have matured and grown since my wife and I dropped them off at school in August.  As always, my family has much to be thankful for this holiday season.  So on behalf of the Katy Citizen Watchdog$ I want to wish you and yours a very happy and safe Christmas Holiday and a great 2009!  Let’s all hope and pray that 2009 doesn’t turn out to be the dark year that I see.  With our new Socialist-Elect President and the liberal super-majority on the Hill we all have a right to be very afraid for this nation; especially those of us that believe in liberty, free-market economics and who detest socialism.

Please remember those young men and women that are overseas defending our liberty who won’t be home for the holidays.  Without those young men and women, along with all of those before them, we wouldn’t have any of the freedoms that we all enjoy and often take for granted.  Let’s all hope and pray that when they return home that the liberties they have been fighting for have not disappeared.

You know, the leadership group of the Katy Dogs is a very un-politically correct group (something we are very proud of).  We say “Happy Thanksgiving”, “Merry Christmas” and even “Happy Easter” to our fellow citizens.  As you have probably noticed, we have posted “Merry Christmas and Happy New Year” on the “Home Page” of our web site.

School Holiday Celebrations Information Letter

By Jay Alan Sekulow, Chief Counsel-American Center For Law And Justice

The American Center for Law and Justice wishes everyone a happy holiday season.  Undoubtedly, students in school districts all over the country are celebrating the holidays in a variety of creative and entertaining ways.  We are aware that some of these celebrations may be hindered by questions of what is permitted or prohibited by the United States Constitution.  Consequently, the purpose of this letter is to assist local school district officials in addressing what activities are permissible for schools to engage in, and to protect the rights of students participation in Christmas or other holiday observances in public schools.  By way of introduction, the ACLJ is an organization dedicated to the defense of constitutional liberties secured by law.

By Helen Eriksen, Houston Chronicle

The Katy Independent School District has approved a calendar for the 2009-10 school year that has been adjusted from last year’s to a more family friendly version that includes a break for students in October.  The board approved the calendar Nov. 24 without discussion in a 6-0 vote with trustee Tom Law absent.  Assistant Superintendent Bonnie Holland said a group of principals, department supervisors and district committees endorsed the calendar which has school starting Aug. 24, 2009, and ending on June 3, 2010, for students.

Lie, Cheat and Steal:  High School Ethics Surveyed

By David Crary, Associated Press

NEW YORK (AP) - In the past year, 30 percent of U.S. high school students have stolen from a store and 64 percent have cheated on a test, according to a new, large-scale survey suggesting that Americans are too apathetic about ethical standards.

Educators reacting to the findings questioned any suggestion that today’s young people are less honest than previous generations, but several agreed that intensified pressures are prompting many students to cut corners.
