district-wide cable channel dedicated to educational programming in general and BVSD-
specific programming in particular. BVSD Comcast subscribers from Nederland through
east Boulder should tune into Comcast channel 22 on Tuesday evening, August 14, for
the first Board of Education meeting of the 2007-2008 school year.
City of Boulder and mountain area subscribers have been used to watching Board
meetings on Comcast channel 8. Because channel 8 is the government access station and
BVSD was in effect a “guest” on the station, the district could never expect to have the
programming flexibility that would be available on an educational access channel. That
changed with the June 26, 2007 Board meeting which was the first broadcast district-
wide on channel 22.
“BVSD is very grateful to the City of Boulder and its staff at Comcast channel 8 for its
years of broadcasting our Board meetings live when the City’s schedule permitted as well
as subsequent re-broadcasts between meetings,” said BVSD Communications Director
Briggs Gamblin in praising channel 8 Director Don Chapman and his staff.
The City of Boulder has now activated channel 22 through an agreement with BTV
(Comcast channel 54), Boulder’s public access station and Comcast. Eventually, BVSD,
working in cooperation with BTV (Comcast channel 54 in Boulder and Nederland areas)
will simultaneously broadcast educational programming – including locally produced
programs – from Nederland through the City of Boulder and all east county BVSD areas
with the exception of Broomfield. Because the City and County of Broomfield is served
by a total of six school districts – primarily BVSD, Adams 12 Five Star School District
and the Jefferson County School District – programming time must be shared and
schedules negotiated.
Mr. Gamblin thanked BVSD Television Task Force members Tony Perri (BTV), Paul
Everitt (Lafayette/Louisville public access television volunteer), Vince Grishman (BVSD
electronic technician), and Elise Oberliesen (BVSD communications technician) for their
ongoing work in getting BV22 up and broadcasting. Watch future issues of the BVSD
Key Communicator for updates as district television continues to develop.
