Page 14 of 20 No. 131 : Encouraging kids to have sex , and to use drugs is IRRESPONSIBLE. Period No. 132 : I do not think kids or anyone else should be encouraged to do thinkgs that are against the law, such as underage drinking or using illegal drugs. Ask any kid who has been arrested for underage drinking about the consequences. They can be major, and expensive in terms of money and otherwise. Most of the panelists seemed to feel that waiting to have sex was a good idea, but they did seem to condone recreational sex, which I'm not sure high school students need to be encouraged to do. No. 133 : I think after reading this I wouldn't feel compelled to go out and try drugs and have sex. They talk about the risks and that knowing the risks are important. I think the organizers could have had at least one of the panelist replaced with someone with a more conservative view on the issues, but overall I think they were pretty "you need to make your own decisions". Probably would have been better at a college freshman level when parental monitoring is lower and kids are even more susceptible to peer pressures without the balance of guidance from their parents. No. 134 : As a teen, I feel the panelists sent out an appropriate, realistic message to students. All we hear is sex and drugs are bad and to avoid them as much as possible especially at this age, and if you think teens listened to that, think again, open your eyes almost all of my friends experiment with drugs and have sex. You need to take a different aproach and that is exactly what the panelists did, they know we're going to do it anyway, so they wanted to inform us of the dangerous outcomes in a non-exaggerated manner. Then once we know the facts, the consequences we can make the desicion we want to. I'm really pissed off at all the remarks Bill O'rielly and everyone else who bashed Boulder High, the Conference on World Affairs, and the people and attitude in Boulder. Many comments were taken out of context, and when Dave Kopel a writer for the Rocky Mountain news, and a parent of a Boulder High Student tried to explain what was actually said, he was unable to as he was rudely interrupted and talked over multiple times. Bill O'reilly said he had the whole transcript on his website of the STD's talk, but I have yet to find the complete version, only excerpts. It is ridiculous how much shit boulder is getting, and I think the media has nothing better to do than distort an educational meeting, and a fabulous town. No. 136 : All I know is the last BHS Student to speak is a courageous hero. Sure... most of the students are not going to immediately start having drug-laden sex after this seminar, but the "Everyone's doing it" message is both completely false and far to accomodating to an unhealthy & unlawful lifestyle. No. 137 : Honestly, I believed that the panelists did a wonderful job of presenting their case. What some people need to realize is that adding a bit of humor to an otherwise taboo topic in today's "civilized" society makes it easier to digest this information. And I quote from "Mary Poppins:" "Just a teaspoon of sugar helps the medicine go down." No. 138 : wow... you know what? i am 15 years old, i am as old as these children that were being subjected to this "propaganda", and i wish i had been there to witness it first hand because that seemed like something more educational, open, and really inspirational than what ive been exposed to durring my entire 9 year education. i just think that you people that are so politically correct about not exposing people my age to these sort of facts are actually encouraging the sexual deviancy that is prevolent in what i have seen in my generation. I live in washington state and have seen what drugs and casual sex can do to people and what the consuquences are and i feel that i can make my own choices and that i can use self controll, and that if you cant give my generation credit for that i think it shows that 1) you have lost sight of what it is like to be a teenager and 2) that you have no faith in us, whether it be me, my generation, or your own kids. No. 139 : Nothing that was said here is innappropriate. It is all true and it scares you. Get with the real world. Learn to act like adults. No. 140 : I can't believe the responses to this. Coming from one of the highest porn producing countries in the world....... you all get hot under the collar over this? Have you all forgotten your youth? Have you forgotten the appeal of sex and drugs? Get a grip, your kids are DOING this and trying to teach them abstinence only does nothing to stop teenagers from discovering themselves and their world. Bravo to the presenters, they did a great job of addressing these issues realistically. |
