Page 18 of 20 No. 171 : Be free, yet without using freedom as a pretext for evil. No. 172 : Bloody disgraceful. No. 173 : In my opinion, the open-minded and realistic approach taken by the panel was incredibly refreshing and educational on a level beyond the blatant fear-mongering that permeates educational systems across America. The panel obviously respected their audience enough to tell them straight what they had learned from their own experience. I wish more adults could be as candid to young adults. I know I don't want to be coddled and babied and force-fed dumbed down information "for my own good." We all have a right to choose what we wish to do with our lives, and I think we are all better off with the uncensored facts. No. 174 : I read the complete transcript and much of the following comments. The real issue here is not what was said or not said by the panel. The real issue is that the parental role concerning these topics was stolen by people who did not have a vested interest in the child... and, yes, that is what they are..children. Call them young adults if you like but they are still under the authority of their parents who have the responsibility for rearing them. The parents should have been given the choice whether or not the child could attend. No. 175 : It is true that for the most part the message is "you should really think about these things because you might hurt yourself". But the presenters obviously used the fascination with the crude and outrageous, resulting in an underlying message that being an idiot is so much fun. The sense I get from the transcript is that the speakers were much more on the side of fooling around with sex and drugs than not. What do you mean, don't tell anyone else what they are doing is wrong? Do these speakers live by that rule? The whole case falls down when they deny that there is any objective standard of right or wrong on these issues. if there's no such thing as wrong, why did kids get pulled out of class to come to this panel? It's a fact of life, and it has been for longer than anybody can remember. I, myself, had sex for the first time at 15 with a girl who had multiple partners and who was the same age as me. If I had heard adults speak to me this candidly about sex, I would have thought twice about it. I was a smart kid, but I wasn't emotionally ready to be in that kind of relationship. I wish someone would have told me, "Look, you really need to ask yourself if, at 15, you are emotionally ready to commit yourself to an act this big?" To have someone throw a curve ball at you like that can be life-changing. All I ever heard was "Don't have sex or else you'll die or ruin your life!", and at 15 I felt invincible, so dying was out of the question. Ruining my life could be averted by using a condom, so I thought I was ready. Someone should have told me that by having sex, I could fall in love with a person that wouldn't reciprocate my feelings, and that would lead to an attempted suicide. That would've been one helluva wake-up call. No. 178 : Nice Site! http://google.com No. 179 : Finally education about drugs which doesnt demonize either nor enforces lies and misconceptions in order to scare the youth away from the truth. I wish I had had talks like this when I was in high school.
