On the contrary, I think throughout the discussion Dr. Becker + Co. showed great respect for the decision-making abilities of the kids. The lack of fear-mongering and outright lying which characterizes most similar "education" in my school was blessedly absent here. Reasonable discussion such as this shows respect for the audience's capabilities, Propaganda shows disdain.

Oh. My. Goodness. I would be very upset if this happened at my school. Sure, we teens have to make choices. But we need to be taught to make the right ones. In my school district they encourage abstinence from sex and tell us not to use drugs. But without exaggerations and playing on fears. Experimentation with sex and drugs is a bad idea, period.

These are high school students! This type of presentation was inapporopriate for them. Sometimes its ok, but this talk confuses the hell out of high schoolers and gives them bad ideas.

I think being a responsible adult means being frank with kids. Some folks need to get that abstinence-only ed isn't going to cut it in today's society. We just aren't that backwards. The panel tackled the important issues in a way that was honest and so I applaud them for that. Just because your kids do drugs and have sex doesn't mean they're bad and it certainly doesn't mean they're on the road to nowhere. Sex and drug information needs to be made accessible to America's youth. Yes, I understand some kids getting uncomfortable listening to this, but I found that through it all, the panel made it clear - individuals have choices and neither ought to be presented as right or wrong. It also spoke about the importance of evaluating one's self before engaging in so-called "taboo" behaviors.
