Page 3 of 20 No. 21 : People (kids) this age are simply too young to experience this ... this could be a discussion in college, not school like this .... the thing that seems very unfair, is the opposite view presentation No. 22 : So we should officially shield kids from any frank discussion about sex and drugs, knowing all the while that they're picking up who knows what kind of contradictory (mis)information from their peers and environment outside school, until college? That may be too late. No. 23 : 6, 7, 16, 17 - I did read the transcript - twice. If this is "progressive" thinking, then my kids will have no part in it. I am responsible for their moral upbringing, not the schools. Who ever heard of "responsible" (against the law) drug use? Who ever heard of "understanding" that unprotected sex was just a "choice" and now have a child because of that choice? Who ever approached something with "you're going to do it anyway"? Go ahead, put your finger in the saw, you're going to do it anyway! Ridiculous! The bottom line here is that children are just that - CHILDREN - until they are mature enough to make these type of choices on their own. They need guidance and direction from parents, clergy and other family adults to avoid these pitfalls. Parents don't "preach" because they want to restrict their kids lives, it's because they know the consequences by experiencing them themselves or seeing their friends experience them. They place restrictions on them because they love them and want the best for them. In any case, this discussion (especially a one-sided one like this) should not be paid for by taxpayers in the public school. No. 24 : This talk would be okay for a college audience but NOT for a high school one with children as young as 14 attending. No. 25 : I dont understand why everyone is overreacting. It makes me sick to think that people want to confine their children to one decision, not even their own. I know that I'm just a freshmen, so people might think im uneducated, but the truth is, i think this is an amazing assembly, and wish i could have been there :) No. 26 : Students have a mind of their own, so the fact that this panel was one sided does not matter. It just gives the students a little more to think about when they are making important decisions. No. 27 : In responce to those who say that we, the sutdents, are too young, cant understand, cant make the choice... then what you say is a disgrace. Ageism is a real problem these days, just because we're not adults does not mean we cannot think for ourselves. I disagree with what the panel said, going to that conferance did not change that fact. Kid's are entitled to thier own opinions...parents just have to trust that if they've done a good enough job raising us, then when there are confrences where kids can hear the other side's opinion, that thier opinion isnt changed. But if it is, then it's that kid's choice to make, be it for better or worse. No. 28 : I encourage concerned good people to widely begin to circulate this transcript via the internet across our country. This transcript can serve us well as an informed citizenry of the poor state affairs of public education in the United States. When it is read by literally thousands of people then will Boulder's irresponsible Superintendent and Principal and other possible staff be exposed. With high visibility other schools will be extremely quick to take note. This transcript will markedly increase home-schooling enrollment across the United States. It is only when students are withdrawing from schools such as Boulder will school authorities realize it is not their responsibility to promulgate moral relativism. Look closely at how public schools have declined! It is essential to our great nation. Send this transcript to others you know, and watch a movement ground-swell. No. 29 : The self predication of these panelists was shameful. There was nothing educational about this presentation except that these panelists are immature and self absorbed. They should be held accountable for their affirmations of high risk behaviors. Their approach to these high school students seemed an attempt to achieve self acceptance for their own unhealthy life choices. Misery loves company! No. 30 : Irresponsible, over-indulgent, and narcissistic Marxist hippies have completely overrun our education system. They resent the domination of traditional authority because at its core is the discipline, restraint, and molding of the wild impulses of youth into cultured, conscientious, and prudent adults. The Marxists present themselves as "enlightened" and far superior to the allegedly oppressive traditonalists, because like the Pied Piper of Bremen, they seek to lure the youth away from the protection of the traditionalists out of resentment for not making as much money as so many capitalists! Losers in life always try to find some way to entice people into thinking that the winners are evil frauds or oppressive beasts, so that they can sell the snake oil of socialism and free love and everybody-smoke-pot ethos to the most gullible: The children. |
